Hypertrophic nonunion is thought to be caused by continued motion at the fracture site. The fracture line persists, and there is buildup of external callus, widening the diameter of the bone ends. [From WORTH, 1986, p. 32.]

Pseudarthrose fibro-cartilagineuse ou hypertrophique : il s'agit d'un cal fibro-cartilagineux externe. Sur le plan radiologique on constate : un élargissement de l'espace interfragmentaire, un élargissement et une condensation des extrémités osseuses qui s'arrondissent avec hypertrophie du cal, une oblitération du canal médullaire à hauteur du foyer, des signes de mobilité du matériel d'ostéosynthèse.
